Certifications explained
Safety is at the heart of what we do. All of our jackets undergo rigorous and extensive safety testing to achieve optimal UKCA and CE approval ratings.

受付済
- CE is the standard mark of the European Union that goods achieve certain standards and conform to regulations within the motorcycle segment
- The CE mark is not officially recognised outside of Europe but is held in esteem by almost all of the rest of the world in terms of confidence in motorcycle wear
- There are no comparable standards in either Japan, Australia, New Zealand, or USA but it is a sign that the clothing has gone through rigorous independent testing and assessment

受付済
- The UKCA standard is identical to the European CE standard. These require identical tests but separate certification and assessment to be recogonised as motorcylce PPE clothing.
- The UKCA is a mark required to sell in the UK market post Brexit.
Understanding your protection
certified levels of protection
Our garments are labelled up to inform you of the level of certified protection. You can use the below descriptors to identify the protection in each level.
AA
Certified
Classed as touring gear and heavy duty use motorcycle clothing
This is the safety certification which almost every Enginehawk Jacket has achieved.A
Certified
Classed as urban riding
EH products with this certification: Jackal (armoured hoodie) Combat ShirtB
Certified
The clothing is the same level as A Class but without impact protectors

Garment zones schematic
Garments are broken down into different zones based upon injury risk and statistics from accidents:

Impact Zones

Zone 1
Hit-risk areas so need maximum protection plus impact protection in shoulder, elbow, hip and knee.

Zone 2
高い耐摩耗性が必要です。

Zone 3
中程度のリスクしかありませんが、これには背骨も含まれます。 多くのライダーは、これらの部分に衝撃保護機能を持たせるという選択肢をとっています。
When purchasing an Enginehawk Jacket we include back protectors as standard!
Certification Explained
Impact abrasion
- Impacts the fabric against a rotating concrete tile of specific unevenness to represent a typical road surface
- The impact of the material hitting the rotating concrete is applied at a constant pressure
- The material is held to the surface for nine seconds. Any hole greater than 5mm dictates a fail at that speed
- The table shown below gives the various speed that the impact abrasion is tested at:
Zone | AA rated | A, B & C Rated |
1 | 47mph / 75 kph | 30mph / 48 kph |
2 | 28mph / 45 kph | 15mph / 24 kph |
3 & 4 | 15mph / 25 kph | N/A |

Armour levels of protection
All enginehawk jackets are provided with level 1 central back, shoulder and elbow and can also be upgraded to level 2. Below is a description of performance difference.

Level 1
Vs

Level 2
Level 1
CE Level 1 rated armour can have a maximum transmitted force of 18kN, and no single value shall exceed 24kN
Level 2
CE Level 2 rated armour can have a maximum transmitted force of only 9kN, and no single value shall exceed 12kN
This means that CE Level 2 rated motorcycle armour will transmit less force through the body than CE Level 1 rated motorcycle armour. The armour will simply absorb more forces, reducing the chances of impact injury
Certification Explained
Tear Strength

- The material is held to the surface for nine seconds. Any hole greater than 5mm dictates a fail at that speed

Slim design but serious protection

Lightweight
We patented an algorithm that mimics how cells are packed in nature. 100 million years of evolutionary know-how in every single fibre. It helps our materials to be lighter, naturally.

Breathable
Cell packing allows air to flow naturally around the rider. Making armour the most brethable protection in the world.

Flexibility
Our dynamic, reactive material gives impact protection exactly where it’s needed, whilst maintaining total comfort and flexibility.
